Civil Court denies motion for temporary order by Nasheed

Civil Court on Saturday resolved not to issue the motion for temporary court order filed by the legal team of former President Mohamed Nasheed against the changing of Judges’ bench of Hulhumale’ Court.
The legal team requested Civil Court to issue a temporary order to halt the appointment of a new panel of Judges in Hulhumale’ Court until the Civil Court comes to a decision on the lawsuit filed by Nasheed questioning the legitimacy of the panel of judges in Hulhumale’ Court.
The motion for temporary court order was filed after two judges in the Hulhumale’ Court bench overseeing Nasheed’s case were appointed to another courts.
However، Civil Court denied the motion for temporary court order stating that JSC informed a change will not be brought to the panel. Civil Court further stated Nasheed will be given a chance to file a motion for temporary court order if JSC is resolving to bring a change to the panel of judges in Hulhumale’ Court.
Civil Court further said as the change in the structure of the court will be effective after 12 tonight، the judges overseeing Nasheed’s lawsuit will also be changes. Therefore، the court did not disclose a date for the hearing of Nasheed’s lawsuit.
