Case against Supreme Court Judges submitted to JSC by Lawyer

Lawyer Ahmed Abdullah Afeef has submitted a case against the seven Judges of the Supreme Court, to the Judicial Service Commission (JSC).
Afeef explained to Sun Online that under Supreme Court’s regulations pertaining to lawyers, lawyers are required to sign a confirmation before he is allowed to practice at any Court.
Afeef, who is also the Chair of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) Legal Committee, pointed out that no person should be forced to sign a document which he does not believe in; and his refusal to sign this confirmation resulted in him being disallowed to practice at any Court in Maldives.
As he was denied this basic right to work, he decided to submit this complaint to the JSC and request that action be taken against the Judges of Supreme Court.
Afeef said that he first submitted the case to High Court, but was informed that the High Court cannot accept a case about the regulations of the Supreme Court.
