Trial on case filed against Funaddoo by FSM begins after one year

The trial on case filed by Fuel Supply Maldives (FSM), demanding the money owed by Funaddoo Tuna Products for the purchase of fuel on credit, has commenced today after one year.
Presenting the case at the trial held at Civil Court, FSM’s lawyer argued that up till 10 April 2011, Funaddoo owed Rf3,068,768.32 for the purchase of fuel, plus Rf7,019,693.8 as fine, which results in a total of Rf 10,088,462.17, to FSM.
He expressed concern that it took one year to begin the trial for this case, which was submitted on 10 April 2011. He noted that the company was facing losses following failure by Funaddoo to make this payment even after repeated reminders.
The agreement signed between FSM and Funaddoo states that failure to make the payment within the deadline would result in a daily fine of 0.15 percent.
Funaddoo was represented at today’s session by two of its shareholders Medhuhenveiru MP Ali Azim and Ahmed Rasheed of M. Rafeeguge. Alifushi MP Ahmed Nashiz is also a shareholder of the company.
Civil Court Judge said that the company shareholders had to be summoned to court due to failure by the court to handover the court notification to the company.
When given the opportunity to respond to the claims, Azim said that a response will be given after discussion within the company and appointment of a lawyer.
“It would be difficult to respond today. We have to discuss within the company and also speak to a lawyer,” Azim said.
Civil Court Judge ended today’s trial by giving Funaddoo the opportunity to appoint a lawyer and respond to the claims.
