No plans of joining a coalition, will work independently: Adhaalath Party

Adhaalath Party on Sunday night made the decision to withdraw their support for the government, saying that injustice was prevailing under their rule. Speaking regarding the decision in an interview with Haveeru, Imran said that Adhaalath Party would be working independently putting the welfare of the whole nation first. He said that parties usually made coalitions during election time, and that since that was far-off, they had not decided to join forces with any party. “This party will be seen working independently for the people,” he said. However, Imran said that though the party may not be officially joining forces with another party, they would hold discussions with relevant sources on matters of national welfare, and participate in anything that needs to be done jointly. Adhaalath Party provided their backing to President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom during Presidential Elections free of any condition. However 8 individuals aligned with the party hold high posts within the government – including Islamic Minister DR Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed, state ministers, and deputy ministers. Imran said that the party had made no decision regarding the individuals serving high government posts, but that the discussion would be carried out in the future. Adhaalath Party’s statement announcing the decision to part ways reads that corruption had spread within the little time government had taken over, and that injustice prevailed within society.
