President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first sitting President of the Maldives to visit all 187 inhabited islands and cities within just 1 year and 11 months of his administration.
His final stop was K. Thulusdhoo, concluding a nationwide tour that included second visits to 63 islands. This record surpasses President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom’s five-year completion of the same feat 42 years ago.
Throughout the visits, President Muizzu directly engaged with Island Councils, WDCs, and the public to accelerate developmental projects and eliminate bureaucratic delays. These engagements helped launch:
- Police services on all 66 previously uncovered islands
- Installation of ATMs on every inhabited island (completion by end of this month)
- Expansion of ID and passport services in all atolls
- Island-specific development agreements in housing, health, education, and infrastructure
The tours also featured on-site assessments of hospitals, schools, mosques, and community centres, reinforcing the administration’s commitment to decentralised development and leaving no community behind.
