The second round of voting for the Local Council Elections and Women’s Development Committee (WDC) elections, initially held on 4 April, is scheduled to take place on 18 April 2026.
The announcement was made by the President of the Election Commission of Maldives (ECM), Mohamed Zahid, prior to the release of the final results of this month’s national triple polls.
The ECM President stated that the national triple polls recorded the highest voter turnout to date and reiterated that the elections were conducted independently and transparently. He noted that some constituencies require a second round of voting, which will be held on Saturday, 18 April. He added that the ECM has begun the necessary preparations for the run-off.
Speaking on the elections, he also revealed that the complaints bureau established for the polls had received 170 complaints. He said that work is underway to assess the legal grounds of these complaints and to respond accordingly.
Individuals who are not satisfied with the ECM’s response to their complaints have the right to take their cases to the High Court. The window to do so opened on 11 April and will remain open for 14 days.
