Zabeena secures Utheemu WDC President’s seat

Aishath Zabeena, the candidate from the ruling People’s National Congress (PNC) who contested for the position of President of the HA. Utheemu Women’s Development Committee (WDC) in the upcoming 2026 Local Council and WDC elections, has secured the seat.
Following the confirmation of her seat, Ibrahim Shujau, the Member of Parliament for the Baarashu constituency—which includes Utheemu—and Abdulla Rasheed, the President of the Utheemu Council, both extended their congratulations to her.
As there were no other competing candidates, the PNC has also secured the Utheemu Council President’s seat in addition to Zabeena’s position. The Utheemu Council seat was won by the incumbent President, Abdulla Rasheed, who defended the position for a fourth term.
Furthermore, the PNC has also secured the Baarashu Island Council President’s seat. This seat was won by Ali Sameem, who currently serves as a Deputy Minister at the Ministry of Cities, Local Government and Public Works.
