Dr Ibrahim Didi has said that a case will be filed to court, regarding MDP’s National Congress removing him from the post of MDP President and Alhan Fahmy from the post of MDP Vice President.
Dr Didi said in an interview with Sun today that the letter sent by Elections Commission (EC) today regarding this issue implies that he should file the case to court.
EC had indicated that they do not have the legal capacity to investigate, or make a decision on the internal issues of political parties.
Dr Didi said that he is working with Alhan Fahmy to hand over the case to their legal team, to be filed to court.
Dr Didi further said that EC’s letter stated that the new basic regulation of MDP was registered with EC today.
“The letter says that the revised basic regulation of MDP was registered with EC today. So they couldn’t have removed us without violating the regulations. EC’s response implies that this issue can only be resolved by taking it to court. When I sent the case to EC, MDP had not registered their revised basic regulation with EC,” Dr Didi said.
The regulation pertaining to political parties indicates that any changes to a party’s basic regulation should be submitted to EC with the relevant documents.
The letter sent by EC to Dr Didi however stated that the regulation pertaining to political parties does not indicate, the failure to register changes made to a party’s basic regulation with EC, as a reason to not accept the changes.
Alhan, who was removed from MDP leadership along with Dr Didi at the National Congress meeting, also said that the case will be filed to court.
