ATP urges Maldives tourism industry to ban single use plastic bags

The Maldives Association of Tourism Professionals (ATP) calls upon the tourism industry to ban single use plastic bags.
Maldives ATP has stated that intense collaboration amongst the industry is needed to ensure success of “Ban the Bags” campaign. They stressed upon resorts, guesthouses and hotels to join forces in the pursuit of banning single use plastic bags. ATP while stressing on the environmentally hazardous consequences posed by single use plastic, emphasized on the importance of preserving the country’s environment as well.
“The steps we take today are crucial to maintain our future.  Therefore, I call upon all the affiliates of the tourism industry to ban single use plastic for good” said the President of Maldives Association of Tourism Professionals, Dr. Hussain Sunny Umar.
He stated that his vision is to accomplish this goal by the year 2020. Dr. Umar noted that recognized countries from around the globe have managed to put an end to single use plastic by successful campaigns.
The Maldives Association of Tourism Professional (ATP) first came to inception during the World Travel Market (WTM) at London, United Kingdom.  The ATP aims to act as a strict advocate to address concerns and setbacks in the industry and to achieve credible solutions by collaborating with the state government.
