The integrity of the current parliament has been lost, says former President Mohamed Nasheed.
Nasheed made the statement while speaking at the ceremony held on Saturday night to inaugurate MP Mohamed Falah’s campaign site. Nasheed said that heaps of cash are discussed on the Parliament floor without a trace of shame.
“The Parliament was seized. Members of that term were held captives by the then President for the benefit of then Parliament Speaker. The Parliament is the highest authority in the country, the Parliament is the face of the citizens” said Nasheed.
Highlighting the poor condition of the 18th Parliament during the administration of former President Abdulla Yameen, Nasheed said that the integrity of the upcoming term, which is to begin in May, will be upheld. He further said that the upcoming tenure will bring a difference.
The government coalition leader went on to say that the financial statements of MPs of the next tenure will also be publicized.
