MPL has appealed the civil court order asking MPL not to procure fuel from any other company than Meridiam Services. The hearings of the appeal case has already started in the High Court.
At first MPL request the Civil Court to revise their court order. However after looking through the case again, Civil Court released a verdict saying that there is no reason to revise their previous order.
Civil Court issued this order after MPL started procuring fuel from another company even though Merdiam is the contracted fuel supplier for MPL. Meridian has renewed the contract with out Bidding aand also with out passing a resolution from The Compaany’s Board in the agreement its not even stated that MPL should buy fuel only from Meridiam.
MPL’s media official said that they have appealed the case at High Court and one hearing has already been conducted.
MPL appealed the court order saying that, because of that order, the company is losing over 3.6 million Rufiyaa per year.
Speaking to the press, the CEO of MPL Mohammed Junaid said that the agreement was made with Meridiam even without a bidding process even which is against the financial regulations. Junaid said that the agreement also does not state that MPL should procure fuel exclusively from Meridiam.
“The agreement says that Meridiam should supply fuel when we send purchasing orders. MPL has the discretion to buy or not to buy fuel from them” said Junaid.
Junaid said that when they announced an open bid to supply diesel to MPL, some parties offered to provide at a liter at the rate of 6.90 Rufiyaa and Meridiam supplies at the rate of 12 Rufiyaa per liter.
“The agreement says that they should change the fuel price based on market prices. But the fuel supplied by Meridiam does not get cheaper even though market price of fuel is low now. When we sent a letter asking to reduce the prices, it went unanswered and they are billing us at 12 Rufiyaa per liter” said Junaid.
Junaid said that President appointed him to MPL to run the company efficiently and productively. He further said that he does not believe that, Riyaz the owner of Meridiam Services being the deputy PG leader of PPM should result in massive financial loss for MPL.
In addition, Junaid said that he does not believe that he will face any political pressure for working for the rights of the company. “ I am not doing political work. These actions are not political. What I am doing is saving the company from a huge financial loss. This is something I should do” said Junaid.
