The final outcomes and agreements are to be reached after productive discussions at the United Nations on the Sustainable Development Goals under the Post 2015 Development Agenda، says Minister of Foreign Affairs Dunya Maumoon.
Speaking at the press conference held today، Minister Dunya highlighted that as the AOSIS chair، Maldives has played a vital role in creating the Post-2015 Development Agenda، as the deadline for Millennium Development Goals، made in 2000 will be reached this year.
She said، as a small island developing state، and the chair of Alliance of Small Island States، Maldives had contributed in creating a framework of efforts to be undertaken to tackle the obstacles faced by small island states on sustainable developments.
Minister Dunya further said Maldives had achieved six out of eight milestones of the Millennium Development Goals، and that we faced many obstacles in achieving the remaining goals.
“No country has achieved all the goals. Despite Maldives being a small island states، what we have achieved is huge، comparatively،” Minister Dunya said.
Ministry of Foreign Affairs informed that Post 2015 Development Agenda will be adopted during the heads of states summit to be held from 25 to 27 September in New York.
