Maldives ranked 104th on Human Development Index

The human development report published by United Nations Development Program (UNDP) for 2018 placed Maldives in 104th position on the Human Development Index.
The report shows that the Maldives’ HDI value increased from 0.546 in 1995 to 0.719 in 2018 - an increase of 31.7 percent – putting the country in the high human development category – and positioning it at 104 out of 189 countries and territories.
The position is low compared to neighboring Sri Lanka – which ranked the highest in the region at 71st position; but high compared to other regional countries India which ranked 129th, Bangladesh which ranked 135th, Bhutan which ranked 137th, and Nepal which ranked 147th.
The regional country which ranked lowest on the HDI is Pakistan at 152nd position.
The report shows Maldives to have overall progress in all HDI indicators from 1995 to 2018; life expectancy at birth, expected years of schooling, mean years of schooling, and Gross National Income (GNI) per capita.
