Committee seeks party to audit Auditor General

The Public Accounts Committee has made an announcement seeking a party to conduct an audit of the Auditor General’s Office.
The announcement states that an information session will be held at the Parliament Secretariat at 2:00 p.m. on 6 January, and that the deadline for expressing interest to carry out this work is 2:00 p.m. on 9 January.
The Constitution states that audit reports on government institutions must be published within five months of the end of every year.
However only one state institution audit report has been published for 2012, and several audit reports remain to be published for 2011 as well.
Auditor General Niyaz Ibrahim has told Sun Online earlier that work is ongoing for several audit reports, and that they are being delayed due to personal reasons and because he has had to spend time abroad.
