PG office: No evidence has been presented regarding Nasheed

Prosecutor General’s (PG) office has said that they have not presented any evidence in the charge of terrorism against the former president Mohamed Nasheed, for arresting the chief judge of the Criminal Court Abdulla Mohamed against the law.
In the press release today, the PG office said that no activities have taken place in court other than the state presenting its charges against Nasheed, and the judge giving time for Nasheed to assign a lawyer.
The press release also says that all the testimonies and other relevant documents have been submitted to the court as per procedure, but the evidence has not been presented to the court as of yet.
The PG Office expressed concern over the misleading reports compromising the accuracy of the events that took place in court, which claim that the state had presented evidence.
A press release from President Nasheed’s office says, “In the case against President Nasheed, the PG and the two judges presiding over the case presented testimonies.”
Their press release also states that the fact that Criminal Court accepted the case, for which testimonies had been collected during investigation from PG Muhthaaz Muhsin and the two presiding judges, shows that the court was out to achieve a political objective.
