Thulusdhoo MP Mohamed Waheed Ibrahim claims the opposition party Maldives Democratic Party is against the development and prosperity of the Maldivian community.
Today’s Majlis seating had the debate over amendments to Ramazan Bonus، which is subjected to every Muslim employee working in various fields at Maldives. While debating، Waheed said “MDP believes and perceives every beneficial progress to Maldivian community as injustice، and they intervene anyone who is actively trying to bring positive development and change to the benefit of every citizen.”
He made the statement while speaking on assessing and finalizing an equal Ramadan Bonus standard for every subjected employee currently under employment. He went on to add in mock fashion، “Ramadan bonus is an injustice، harbor construction at any island is an injustice، land reclamation is injustice، developing health sector is also an injustice.”
“MDP tries to intervene any positive progress or development، and goes out on the roads to protest that they are against injustice، but if they are trying to interrupt the said things، then it is safe to assume that MDP is opposing everything that proves to be beneficial to the Maldivian society”
The newly proposed amendment to the employment act states that every Muslim employee under employment at a local based private or public office must be subjected to a Ramadan bonus of at least MVR 3000، which must be given to employees before the month of Ramadan.
The proposed amendment bill had been the prime discussion at today’s seating، and is scheduled for a voting session at 13:30hrs today، to see if the bill gets approval from parliament.
According to Maldives employment act، Ramadan bonus must be one-third of an employee’s salary and remuneration، however employees receiving salaries at MVR 2000 or below is subjected to a bonus of MVR 2000. Employees receiving MVR 10،000 as one-third of their salary is subjected to a Ramadan bonus of MVR 10،000.
Earlier، PPM’s parliamentary group leader Ahmed Nihan stated that in order to give Ramadan bonus in equal manner to all employees، an additional MVR 36 million is required. Government’s set expenditure as Ramadan allowance for this year is MVR 92.3 million.
