The Election Commission (EC) decided on Wednesday that members from political party's will not be allowed to participate as election officials.
The Commission stated that over 4,000 volunteers will be picked to act as officials for the upcoming Presidential Elections in September 23.
During past elections, party members have volunteered as officials and worked at the voting stations.
According to EC, the purpose of the regulation is to eliminate additional factors that may interfere with a free and fair election.
In the upcoming elections, a total of 478 voting ballot boxes will be placed in different areas of Maldives.
As per EC regulations, between 5 to 10 officials will be allowed to stay near each box.
