Two Indian nationals have been arrested in connection with the alleged physical abuse of a child during a therapy session at a physiotherapy clinic in Malé.
The arrests follow the circulation of a disturbing video online, which appears to show a child being mishandled by clinic staff during a therapy session. Authorities have confirmed that an investigation is underway, and the incident is being treated with utmost seriousness.
The suspects have been identified as Rajeswari Sivakumar, 24, and Esha Antonnette. Both individuals were arrested under a court order and have been remanded in custody for 15 days pending further investigation.
In response to the incident, the physiotherapy clinic has issued a public statement condemning the actions seen in the video. Describing the behavior as a clear violation of professional standards, the clinic confirmed that both staff members were immediately dismissed following an internal review.
The clinic has also announced a temporary closure to facilitate full cooperation with the ongoing police investigation. According to its management, the matter was promptly reported to authorities and all relevant video evidence has been submitted to aid the inquiry.
The Maldives Police Service has not released further details at this time, but reiterated that the case remains under active investigation.
