Police warn of fake ‘MaldivesPost’ text scam

Maldives Police Service has issued a warning about scam messages circulating under the name “Aminiya” and other random senders, falsely claiming that customs has withheld packages.
According to the Police Anti-Scam Centre, the texts include a link directing recipients to a fake payment gateway designed to steal Bank of Maldives (BML) card details. Victims are told their orders will not be delivered until postage is paid.
Police said they have identified a surge in such messages and urged the public to report and delete them immediately without clicking on the links.
“The scammers obtain sensitive card information when people access the fake gateway,” the statement explained.
Authorities stressed that the number of victims remains high, and warned that scams continue to cause significant financial losses. Police figures show that MVR 1.29 million was lost to scams last month, of which MVR 477,263 was recovered.
The Anti-Scam Centre continues to remind the public to remain vigilant and to treat suspicious messages as spam.
