Hoarafushi brothers arrested in drug raid

The police on Tuesday arrested two brothers from HA. Hoarafushi in a counter-narcotics operation by the Hoarafushi Police Station and the Counter-Narcotics Intelligence Department.
According to a statement released by the police on Thursday, the operation was conducted based on information received by the Counter-Narcotics Intelligence regarding the smuggling, peddling and use of drugs in Hoarafushi.
The police identified the duo arrested in the case as:
Ibrahim Mohamed, 40, Deensvilla, HA. Hoarafushi
Ahmed Shamil, 41, Deensvilla, HA. Hoarafushi
A local source told Sun that the two are brothers.
The police said they seized 11 rubber packets containing suspected drugs and over MVR 3,700 in cash believed to be proceeds from the sale of drugs in the operation.
The two were presented at the court for their remand hearing on Wednesday.
According to the police, the court remanded both in custody for seven days.
The case is under further investigation by the police.
