CEO: Significant efforts undertaken to upgrade Gan hospital to tertiary level

The Gan-based regional hospital on Laamu Atoll, which has a population of some 14,000 people, on Tuesday, revealed significant efforts have been undertaken over the past two years to upgrade the hospital to tertiary standards.
In an interview to Health Ministry on the successes achieved by the current administration as it marks two years in office, Gan Regional Hospital’s CEO Abdul Hannan Abdul Raheem said the hospital has undertaken crucial works necessary to upgrade the hospital to tertiary standards over the past two years.
In this regard, Hannan detailed that the hospital has completed recruitment for specialities that were previously without doctors, with cardiologists, neurologists, and urologists scheduled to join soon.
He said that efforts are also underway to recruit a speech therapist.
“Not only doctors, we are also speedily undertaking efforts to procure machinery and other resources required by doctors in their treatment,” he added.
“This includes MRI (machine). We are working on introducing MRI service at our hospital,” he detailed.
Speaking further, Hannan noted that the hospital had previously faced challenges in securing blood for surgical procedures, but said the issue has now been resolved with the establishment of a blood bank.
He further stated that the project to develop a new hospital building, aimed at upgrading the facility to tertiary-level standards, has now been handed over to the state-owned Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC).
He added that efforts are also underway to enhance the quality of healthcare services provided by the hospital.
