Department of Immigration and Emigration has stated that the passports of government officials were issued on government expense in all governments.
Speaking to Miadhu Daily, the controller of the immigration and emigration Hussein Ali said that none of the governments charge the officials for issuing them official passports.
Hussein Ali said that these passports are issued for official travels. However, personal travels should be done using their own personal passports.
Hussein Ali said that it is saddening that some people are spreading misinformation regarding this and claiming that the government has for the first time started issuing official passports on government expenses.
Meanwhile, Minister of Defence Mohamed Nazim said that the change in the price of passports were changed because of a reason.
He said that the passports issued now are a modern passport with modern features therefore it is costly to make these passports.
