Minister of Foreign Affairs Dunya Maumoon has departed to Qatar on an official visit this morning، Foreign Ministry said on a news statement publicized on its website.
During the visit، Foreign Minister Dunya will hold talks with the Foreign Minister of Qatar Dr. Khalid Bin Mohammed Al Attiyah and discuss ways of further strengthening and expanding the excellent relationship between the Maldives and Qatar.
The official visit to Qatar by the Maldivian delegation will see to the signing of the agreement between Qatar and Maldives to waive obtaining of visa for Maldivians entering into Qatar، Foreign Minister Dunya said in a press briefing held at the Ministry yesterday.
“We have been working on the visa waiver agreement for a long time now. We are expecting it to be signed during this visit،” Minister said.
She underscored President Abdulla Yameen’s foreign policy of further consolidating ties with the Arabic and Islamic countries، and stated the current visit will be highly important. She also noted that top officials of Maldivian government had conducted visits to Qatar previously، holding talks with the Qatari government on enhancing the relationship.
Minister Dunya is accompanied by Mr. Abdullah Hameed، Ambassador-at-Large in the Foreign Ministry، Mr. Mohamed Luveiz، Director at the President’s Office، and Ms. Mariyam Bassama Farooq، Assistant Director at the Foreign Ministry.
