EC files a case in High Court to clarify issues related to the Civil Court Verdict

Eelections Commission of Maldives has filed a case at the High Court stating that there are some issues that needs to be clarified regarding the Civil Court verdict ordering to delay the local council elections for two months.
At first, EC appealed the case at the High Court after Civil Court issued the ruling. However, they withdrew the case saying that the advisory committee on elections advised to announce a new date for the elections.
A press release by EC today states that they filed a case at High Court to clarify some issues that are unclear in the Civil Court verdict. However the press statement did not offer any further explanations.
Political parties are concerned, that the EC has not announced a new date for the elections. According to Elections Commission, they can announce the new date for the council only after they clarify the issues from the High Court.
The election was delayed after PPM filed a case to Civil Court requesting to delay the elections. The verdict of Civil Court states that since PPM did not get time to prepare for the elections due to internal issues, and since PPM is the largest party of Maldives if the elections are held without PPM then it would not be in the best interest of the public.
