Former President and opposition MDP Leader Mohamed Nasheed has stated President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom will not be granted to continue an autocracy in Maldives.
Speaking at the MDP JP Rally at Alimas Carnival last night، President Nasheed said overthrowing of MDP Government was due to the breaking of its coalition with JP.
“CONI’s report states that MDP came into power in 2008 with the help of Jumhooree Party coalition. After the fall of the coalition، the integrity of the Government was lost.” former President said.
He noted that، like MPD، PPM also came into power with JP coalition and now they have lost the ties with JP،President Yameen and his Government has lost the integrity. “Today، Maldives yet again halts at the same step. The integrity of President Yameen’s governance has been lost. This will be an obstruction for the president and his government،” he added.
Nasheed further said without JP، the Government currently has the support of the minority and a Government on the support of minority can only run with autocracy. “We will not let President Yameen to continue an autocracy. We are ready to stand up against it،” he said.
In addition، the opposition leader had assured Jumhooree Party and JP Leader Qasim Ibrahim to stand with them in their collaborated work to defend the spirit of the Constitution.
