MUO not to contest in 2017 council elections

Maldivian United Opposition have said that they do not plan to contest in the 2017 local council elections.
After a cabinet meeting they held today، they have said that they do not plan to take part in the elections. Speaking to the press، the spokesperson of MUO said that they do not want to contest in the elections because they do not trust the current election commissions and also they do not want to contest in an election where e-voting is used.
However he said that the final decision will be made with counsel from the national assemblies of parties in the coalition. Even though they said this، recently decisions of political parties are made by few political leaders who belong to these parties rather than consulting general assemblies or grass root members of the parties.
