Fayyaz: Nasheed's resignation is a loss, wishes him well

Maldives Democratic Party's (MDP) Chairperson Fayyaz Ismail said on Wednesday that even though the party's President Mohamed Nasheed resigning is a sad event, it allows for people to respectfully to go forward on a path they believe in.
Quoting the tweet Nasheed has posted with handwritten letter signaling his resignation, Fayyaz noted it is a sad day that Nasheed has left MDP. However, on behalf of MDP and himself, he wished Nasheed success.
"Thank you for your dedication to MDP and the success achieved under your leadership," Fayyaz said in his tweet.

While Nasheed decided to resign from the party, he had said at a press conference held at the parliament on Monday that he does not wish MDP's presidential candidate President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih to win the election this year, and he has been remaining in MDP in order to overtake the party.
Some of Nasheed's closest aides had left MDP as well and submitted to register a new political party called Democrats with the Election Commission (EC). Even then, Nasheed had said that even though his aides are forming a new party, their goal remains to overtake MDP.
