Economic Minister, Ooredoo Group CEO Discuss Strengthening Collaboration in Maldives’ Digital Transformation

Minister of Economic Development and Trade Mohamed Saeed on Wednesday met with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Ooredoo Group, Aziz Aluthman Fakhroo for a courtesy call, where they discussed enhancing cooperation in areas of mutual interest and ongoing collaboration to support the Maldives’ digital economy.
The Ooredoo Group is the parent company of Ooredoo Maldives, which provides extensive telecommunications services across the country. The meeting, held at the Ooredoo Maldives Headquarters, was also attended by a senior management team of the Ooredoo Group.
In a social media post following the meeting, Minister Saeed said discussions focused on collaborative efforts with Ooredoo on further enhance the country’s digital economy.
“It was a pleasure to meet with Mr. Aziz Aluthman Fakhroo, CEO of Ooredoo Group, and members of the senior management team for a courtesy call, during which we discussed areas of mutual interest and ongoing collaboration in support of the Maldives’ digital economy,” he wrote.
The meeting follows Ooredoo Maldives’ recent announcement of a partnership between Ooredoo Fintech and global financial platform, PayPal, to introduce PayPal services in the Maldives. This initiative is in line with President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s presidential pledge to strengthen the nation’s digital economy.
Ooredoo described the collaboration as a step that would bring revolutionary changes to the country’s economy, while the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade said the partnership is an important step in achieving the government’s digital transformation goals.
