The National Social Protection Agency (NSPA) reports spending more than 32.8 million rufiyaa in July to support individuals struggling with medical expenses.
This includes 11.7 million rufiyaa for overseas treatment and 21.1 million rufiyaa for treatment within the Maldives.
In total, 1,521 cases across 22 types of illnesses received assistance, with cancer and bone diseases among the most supported — 146 cancer cases, 132 bone disease cases, and 124 vascular disease cases.
Private hospital treatments in the Maldives were also covered, with ADK and Tree Top hospitals receiving 8.2 million rufiyaa for 575 cases — 3.7 million rufiyaa for 216 cases at ADK and 4.5 million rufiyaa for 359 cases at Tree Top Hospital.
NSPA runs various programs to provide financial aid to those in need. Starting this month, patients traveling abroad for treatment through NSPA can access up to 2,000 US dollars from banks.
