Commissioner of Police Ismail Naveen has retired from the Maldives Police Service (MPS), concluding a career in law enforcement that spanned more than three decades and was defined by loyalty and leadership.
Naveen confirmed his retirement in a statement released on social media, noting that he had formally relinquished his post the previous day. In a message shared on Facebook, he reflected on his decision with enduring fidelity to the institution, saying he departs as a patriot, with the same respect and regard for the force that he held when he first joined. He described the opportunity to serve the country over such an extended period as a distinct honour.
His appointment as Commissioner of Police came on 10 June 2025, following a selection process in which he was chosen from among three candidates. Prior to assuming the highest office of the force, he had served as Deputy Commissioner of Police.
Naveen’s career began on 7 July 1994, when he entered the Maldives Police Service. Over the course of 32 years, he undertook a wide range of responsibilities across the organisation. Police records highlight his extensive leadership experience, which encompassed command roles in operational, investigative, administrative, and support departments.
