Minister of Arts, Culture, and Heritage, Heena Waleed has described the service of all workers in the Maldives as “invaluable”.
In an exclusive interview with PSM News during the official Workers’ Day march, Minister Heena emphasised that every individual contributing to the Maldives' infrastructural, economic, and social development is performing a critical service. She affirmed the government’s commitment to prioritising the welfare of the workforce.
“Everyone who works is doing an important service to the country. An invaluable service,” the Minister said.
She further lauded workers as the essential foundation of the nation’s progress, calling them the “backbone” and “engine” of the country. The primary purpose of celebrating Workers’ Day, she noted, is to express the nation’s profound appreciation for their tireless efforts.
Worker’s Day, observed annually on 1 May, is a global day dedicated to honouring the contributions of workers, highlighting the challenges they encounter, and advocating for improved safety and rights. The day is being officially commemorated across the Maldives this year.
