The fish processing plant established in Hulhumeedhoo, Addu City, has been officially opened.
According to the Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO), the facility aims to buy and process fish from the south of the Maldives.
The plant was inaugurated by State Minister of Fisheries and Ocean Resources Aminath Hussain Shareef at a ceremony attended by MIFCO’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Farhath Shaheer, along with officials from MIFCO as well as Addu Fisheries Complex.
The fish processing plant aims to increase profits for fisheries stakeholders and provide the opportunity to process fish in a safe and reliable manner. MIFCO said the plant uses blast freezing technology to preserve fish, with products now available for purchase at MIFCO Hulhumeedhoo store. The company is also seeking distributors to expand availability across Addu City.
MIFCO is undertaking expansion efforts by investing in capacity building and infrastructure, supported by government and multilateral financing.
