The Ministry of Higher Education, in collaboration with the World Bank, has launched the "National Human Capital Needs Assessment" study to identify the professional skills and competencies required in the Maldivian labor market.
According to the Ministry, this initiative is being carried out under the "Sustainable and Integrated Labor Services" (SAILS) project. The study aims to analyze the gap between the training programs provided by educational institutions and the actual skills demanded by employers across various industries.
The research will collect data from seven key economic sectors nationwide, offering crucial insights to align workforce training with market needs. The Ministry stated that both short-term and long-term strategies will be formulated based on the study’s findings to ensure a more effective linkage between job seekers and employment opportunities.
"This work is aligned with the government's policy goal of facilitating employment for all Maldivians," the Ministry said in a statement.
As part of the study, a workshop will be held with key stakeholders from the education sector to discuss necessary reforms and improvements in training programs to better equip the workforce for future demands.
