Hulhumalé Hospital and Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) have established special flu clinics to provide medical care for pilgrims returning from Hajj, addressing potential health risks associated with the pilgrimage. The initiative aims to ensure timely medical attention for flu and related symptoms among returnees.
The flu clinic at Hulhumalé Hospital operates daily from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM, except on Fridays. The hospital has advised those seeking further information to contact 1417. At IGMH, pilgrims must first visit the ER triage counter to obtain a token number through the QB token system, after which they will be directed to either the flu clinic or the emergency room. The IGMH flu clinic is open daily from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM. Both hospitals have mandated that visitors wear masks when attending the flu clinics to prevent the spread of infections.
The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has urged pilgrims to avoid gatherings upon their return and has requested the public to minimize visits to airports to welcome returning pilgrims, in an effort to reduce the risk of disease transmission. The first group of Hajj pilgrims arrived in the Maldives on June 13, 2025, with the second group scheduled to arrive today, June 14, 2025. Additional flights are expected on June 16 and June 17, 2025, completing the return of pilgrims in four separate flights.
These measures reflect the proactive steps taken by the Maldives’ health authorities to safeguard public health during the post-Hajj period, ensuring that pilgrims receive appropriate care while minimizing community health risks.
