Maldives recorded a decent uptick in tourism occupancy rate last year in comparison to 2023, central bank, Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) figures showed.
According to MMA’s monthly statistics report, the world renowned holiday destination boasted a occupancy rate in 2024 in contrast to the year before.
Maldives had a 57.6 percent occupancy rate in 2023 across its tourist establishments which increased to 59.1 percent in 2024.
According to the MMA report, tourist resorts were the biggest contributor to the uptick in the occupancy rate last year. In 2023, the occupancy rate of resorts was at 66.3 percent, but in 2024 the figure rose to 71.2 percent.
The occupancy rate of safari vessels also increased last year, from 23.5 percent in 2023 to 26.3 percent one year after.
However, occupancy rates of guesthouses and tourist hotels recorded a decline last year. The occupancy rate of guesthouses in 2023 was 42.7 percent, but had dropped to 35 percent last year.
Tourist hotels also followed a similar trend, with the 35 percent occupancy in 2023 dropping down to 28.4 percent in 2024.
According to the MMA report, a total of 61,739 beds were operated in the Maldives last year, which is an increase of 177 beds compared to the previous year.
