Maldives Police Service has identified the body discovered near Sinamale' Bridge.
Police said they received reports of the incident at 13:35 hrs on Saturday afternoon.
Chief Superintendent of Police, Ahmed Shifan said that the body discovered was that of a 25 year old Nepalese woman. He added that the family of the deceased has been informed as well.
Shifan said that while the cause of death remains unidentified, the police have not yet determined whether to conduct a postmortem examination or release the body to the deceased's family.
The body was found by a speedboat traveling in the area and was taken aboard a dinghy and taken to hospital.
An official from Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) confirmed that the person had been dead on arrival.
