Former Tourism Minister Dr. Abdullah Mausoom have said that Qasim Ibrahim’s trial which is being held at the Criminal Court right now, is based on a case which was invalidated by the High Court.
Qasim was arrested unlawfully on 6th April and the High Court freed Qasim on 12th April. On that day Qasim’s lawyers said that the court decided that Qasim’s arrest was unlawful and hence the investigation carried out after an unlawful detention would be inadmissible in court. In addition, the lawyers said that from the High Court’s verdict it is clear that Qasim’s arrest was unlawful and any subsequent actions based on an unlawful action would be unlawful as well.
They said that the PG should think about this and withdraw these charges against Qasim. Dr.Mausoom said that the PG should respect this and today’s trial is unlawful.
