The Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) has decided to introduce a new stock of MVR2 coins.
The reason given for this introduction is reportedly low stock of the coins in circulation.
The new stock was stored in the treasury and has been released into circulation on 25 June.
There has also been a new stock of MVR0.50 that was released due to a dip in stock as well.
The current design of the MVR2 coin was designed to be lighter than the previous iteration and was released to commentate the anniversary of 50 years of independence.
