Former President Nasheed’s case to be appealed

Prosecutor General’s Office has decided to appeal the case of former President Mohamed Nasheed – who was sentenced to 13 years in Jail over terrorism charges.
PG’s Office confirmed the news in a statement they released a while back.
According to PG Office statement Criminal Court’s verdict of over former President being guilty of terrorism charges pressed by state over the kidnapping of Criminal Court Judge Al-Ustad Abdulla Mohamed will be appealed based on the various complaints filed regarding the authenticity and validity of the court proceedings of the case.
In addition to this the statement had highlighted that former President Nasheed’s advocate team had requested for such an appeal given that he lost the privilege to some of the rights he should have been subjected to during the court proceedings and lack of time to gather adequate evidence to back his case. Nasheed’s advocate team had requested from PG Office to appeal  the case once more.
The case is being appealed at High Court by the power that has been vested to Prosecutor General under Article number 222 i) in the Maldivian Constitution.
While PG Office had confirmed that former President Nasheed’s case will be appealed at High Court، the date for appealing has not yet been disclosed.
