In a press conferenced held by the spokesperson of Chinese Foreign Ministry, the spokesperson said that China welcomes the decision made by the people and that they are ready to strengthen ties with Maldives.
Spokesperson Gen Xuan said that the people of Maldives has elected a president for the next 5 years and that he welcomes President-elect Ibrahim Mohammed Solih. He said that China wants to further strengthen ties between the two countries.
“We are encouraging Chinese companies to invest and do business in Maldives. China wants Maldivian economy to grow” said Gen.
According to some sources, Chinese authorities did not welcome President-elect Ibu on Monday because Monday was a holiday in China.
Economists in the country are recommending the President-elect and his team to strengthen the relation with China even though there is a regime change.
