Maldives Labour and Social Democratic Party (Labour Party) has decided to run for 11 seats in April’s parliamentary election.
The Labour Party stated that it will announce the names of their candidates at a special ceremony.
The party is to run for HDh. Nolhivaram, Sh. Milandhoo, Lh. Hinnavaru, B. Eydhafushi, ADh. Maamigili, Th. Kimbidhoo, GA. Dhaandhoo, S. Meedhoo, Villimale’, Hulhumale’, and South Henveiru.
The party stated that they are still accepting applications of candidates interested in running in the parliamentary election with their ticket.
The party stated that it will give high priority to those who are willing to fight for the rights of workers, and will have them sign an agreement guaranteeing as such.
In a press statement, the Labour Party stated that it has received complaints of employees being threatened, penalized or dismissed for political reasons.
The party stated that its mission is to fight for the rights of workers and social justice and so urges people to form worker’s unions in order to protect themselves from such injustices.
The party assured that it will help and support any worker who have been unfairly treated.
