Last week, one of the main headlines was that Japan and India are concerned that Chinese companies are investing in businesses in Sri Lanka. Also that it is a danger to the security and safety of South Asia.
Some Sri Lankan newspapers said that, countries will seek assistance from China no matter what. Also, that they cannot halt development of their own nation just because some others might be unhappy. In addition they said that they cannot ruin the economy and let people starve.
Due to an economic recession in Sri Lanka the value of rupees has fallen and inflation is very high. The newspapers said they are not only interested in getting Yuan but also Indian Rupees and Japanese Yen too.
“Indians can also invest. Even Japan can. We are in need of jobs and hopeless. Government safe is empty. The SEZ developed by China is not a small nail on a plank of wood. That is a huge investment for the further development of Sri Lanka” said some newspapers.
China started Henbantota Habour and SEZ project in Lanka maybe because China did not get the opportunity to do so in Maldives. Due to the proximity of Ihavandhihpolhu to India, Maldives cannot afford to give it to China.
Even though Ihaven is vital for the silk route project of China, they started projects in Lanka possibly, because this area is important for the project in overall.
