Indian warship “IOS Sagar”, used for offshore patrolling, has berthed in the Maldives on Tuesday morning.
The warship ‘INS Sunaina’ was re-designated with call sign ‘IOS Sagar’ as part of the Indian government’s efforts of ensuring maritime security and safety across the Indian Ocean.
Upon the vessel’s arrival on Tuesday morning, MNDF Coast Guard’s Brigadier General Mohamed Saleem had visited the warship to meet and welcome the Indian officers onboard.
Four officers from Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF), that includes four crew members and an officer, were part of the trip.
The Indian navy commander, and the warship’s commanding officer Kamal Singh Rana, while speaking with ‘Sun’ said the trip was a crucial experience gathering effort.
The officers had commented of gaining valuable insight and experience from collaborating training efforts, and added this experience helped them in excelling progressively.
The vessel embarked with a crew capacity of 44 members from 10 countries from the Indian Ocean region, which include India, Maldives, Sri Lanka, Mauritius, Mozambique, Madagascar, Seychelles, Comoros, Kenya, and Tanzania.
The offshore patrolling vessel will be berthed in the Maldives for two days before it heads to Kochi, India.
