Abdul Raheem Abdulla, the Speaker of People’s Majlis, arrived in Uzbekistan on Saturday to attend the 150th assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).
The 150th IPU is taking place from Saturday to Wednesday at the Uzbek capital, Tashkent.
Abdul Raheem is accompanied in the visit by the Majlis’ minority leader, South Hithadhoo MP Ibrahim Nazil, Central Maafannu MP Asma Rasheed, Huraa MP Dr. Anara Naeem, South Maafannu MP Abdulla Rifau, and South Henveiru MP Hussain Imran Latheef.
Formed in 1889, the IPU is a global organization of national parliaments with 181 members and 15 associate members. The Maldives made the decision to join the IPU in 2004, and formed the IPU-Maldives branch in 2005.
