Maldivian eases ticket booking, drops ID copy requirement

The national airline (Island Aviation Services) has announced on Thursday that passengers booking tickets with the airline will no longer be required to present an ID card copy.
In a statement, the airline announced that starting August, customers will no longer need to provide copies of their ID cards or license cards when booking tickets for their flights. This decision has been made with the goal of enhancing convenience for all passengers, the airline said.
Customers need only share identification details in line with their travel documents (e.g., ID card, license, or passport), and tickets will be issued based on the name and information provided, Maldivian said.
The airline explained that if there is any problem in the name, customers can contact the airline by e-mail or its 24-hour service hotline at 1671. The airline states that name discrepancies can be corrected free of charge if reported within 24 hours of ticket issuance.
However, as per the existing practice, customers will still be required to present an ID card, license, or passport during check-in and boarding.
