Maldivian night showcases the nation’s culture, says VMC‘s Shiuree

Visit Maldives Corporation (VMC) Managing Director Ibrahim Shiuree has stated that the Maldivian Night held at the ITB Berlin 2026 showcases the Maldivian spirit and the island nation’s culture.
Speaking during the Maldivian Night at the sidelines of the ITB Berlin 2026, VMC’s Ibrahim Shiuree said that Maldivian Night is not just an important date on the calendar, but also an important cultural activity for the Maldives.
He said this event opens an opportunity to showcase Maldives in a unique and personable light through the island archipelago’s many folktales, talents and delicacies. He also lamented the fact that many teams were unable to arrive with the required items for the night, due to the airspace closure, and as such this year’s activity is conducted on a smaller scale than before. Nevertheless, he highlighted the showcasing of Maldivian hospitality and resilience in the face of adversities as the event proceeded.
“After many years, this activity was conducted along with BML. I sincerely hope that the bond between partners will strengthen with tis event”, he said.
Speaking at the Maldivian Night, Abdullah Ghiyas, Chairman of VMC, highlighted that the Maldives' tourism industry has evolved into a world class sector over the past five years. He noted that 2025 stands as a landmark year for the industry, with tourism revenues reaching an unprecedented USD 5.5 billion.
Ghiyas further stated that numerous marketing campaigns were conducted over the past year in collaboration with major global tour operators and airlines. He emphasised that these initiatives were not merely focused on increasing awareness but were result-oriented efforts that yielded significant success.
'"Through the efforts of the past year, we have welcomed a record-breaking number of tourists to the Maldives. Looking at the current year, January alone saw record arrivals, and in February, the daily arrival record was shattered three times," the VMC Chairperson added.
In addition to the Delegation from VMC, Maldives Ambassador to Germany, Aishath Shaan Shakir said that Germany is a close partner for Maldives’ tourism. She said Germans visit Maldives not only to spend their vacation, but for a wide array of reasons and that this symbolises the trust and strong connection between the people of the two nations.
After many years, the Maldivian Night was conducted for the first time in a colorful spectacle. In this regard, a draw was conducted among participants, and many gifts were given to them.
