Kulhudhuffushi City Mayor Mohamed Athif stated that Kulhudhuffushi City is a national island and that Thiladhunmathi played a crucial role in maintaining the independence of the Maldivian nation. Mayor Athif made this statement while speaking at the ceremony to inaugurate the structure developed in Kulhudhuffushi City in memory of Martyr Corporal Hussain Adam. Speaking at the ceremony held yesterday, Mayor Athif said that independence is not something obtained for free, and ultimately, the price of the Maldivian nation’s independence was the life and pure blood of Martyr Hussain Adam. Highlighting the role of Thiladhunmathi, Mayor Athif stated that Thiladhunmathi has always been special as a place where heroes stand in the forefront of every aggression directed at the nation. Mayor Athif also mentioned that although not written in history, many heroes hail from Thiladhunmathi. Furthermore, the Mayor noted in his speech that Kulhudhuffushi is a national island and a city of heroes and strong personalities. Mayor Athif also stated that this was the reason behind inaugurating a structure in memory of Martyr Corporal Hussain Adam. “Martyr Corporal Hussain Adam is our pride. Today, we have achieved a tiny fraction in his memory. This is an important reason to tell our future generations about the memories of heroes, their noble jihad, and their courage. Today, we have completed one of the important tasks undertaken to nurture children who will defend our nation,” said Mayor Mohamed Athif. Speaking about the work done by important personalities belonging to Kulhudhuffushi, the Mayor emphasized the importance of learning lessons from their efforts, teaching these things to the next generation, and raising children who will bravely step forward to defend the nation. The Mayor noted that such projects are undertaken under the council’s five-year development plan, specifically under matters related to culture, heritage, and nationalism. He highlighted that the true reason such work is being done is the power and authority granted to councils by the Decentralization Act, adding that an office located in the capital, Malé, would not be able to see the small matters in the islands.**Thiladhunmathi Played a Crucial Role in Maldivian Independence: Mayor Aathif** Kulhudhuffushi City is a national island, and Thiladhunmathi played a crucial role in maintaining the independence of the Maldivian nation, stated the Mayor of Kulhudhuffushi City, Mohamed Aathif. Mayor Aathif also mentioned that although not written in history, many heroes hail from Thiladhunmathi. Furthermore, the Mayor noted in his speech that Kulhudhuffushi is a national island and a city of heroes and strong personalities. Mayor Aathif added that this is also the reason why a structure was inaugurated in memory of Martyr Corporal Hussain Adam. “Martyr Corporal Hussain Adam is our pride. Speaking about the work done by important personalities belonging to Kulhudhuffushi, the Mayor said it is crucial to learn lessons from their work, teach these things to the next generation, and raise children who will bravely step forward to defend the nation. The Mayor noted that such projects are undertaken as part of the Council’s 5-year development plan, under matters related to culture, heritage, and nationalism. He emphasized that the true reason these projects are being carried out is the power and authority granted to councils by the Decentralization Act, adding that an office located in the capital, Malé, would not be able to see the small matters in the islands. In this regard, the Mayor stated that the important work carried out through the Decentralization Act will increase the money circulating in the island’s economy, as many projects run by the councils are carried out by companies belonging to that island. He noted that currently, 19 projects are underway by the Kulhudhuffushi City Council, with a total value of MVR 28.2 million worth of work currently in progress. Therefore, Mayor Aathif requested at yesterday’s ceremony that all citizens work together in unity to defend the decentralized system and ensure the rights granted by the Decentralization Act.
