Former Youth and Sports Minister Ahmed Mahloof has officially resigned from the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), the opposition party. His departure was confirmed today via a formal letter submitted to MDP Chairperson Fayyaz Ismail.
In his resignation letter, Mahloof expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve within the party since 2015, noting that he took pride in contributing to national development during the administration of former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, where he served as a cabinet minister.
Mahloof, a former People’s Majlis member elected on the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) ticket, had earlier left PPM over political differences during the presidency of Abdulla Yameen. His decision at the time to join MDP was seen as a significant political shift. However, Mahloof has not yet disclosed specific reasons behind his decision to leave MDP after nearly a decade of active involvement.
His departure adds to the ongoing reshuffle and realignments within major political parties ahead of key upcoming political developments.
