President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has assured that by the end of 2026, every inhabited island in the Maldives will have the capacity to conduct medical tests in in full compliance with the standards and guidelines set by the Ministry of Health.
The President made this assurance while addressing residents of Noomaraa, during the first leg of his ongoing tour of the inhabited islands in North Miladhunmadulu Atoll.
Highlighting healthcare as one of his Administration’s foremost priorities, President Dr Muizzu stated that the Government is focused on strengthening the health sector both in terms of human resources and infrastructure. He reiterated that the Administration has set a target to establish laboratory facilities on all inhabited islands within the next two years. As part of this initiative, he confirmed that a laboratory will also be developed on Noomaraa.
The President further assured that all development projects in Noomaraa will be carried out efficiently and in line with the community’s needs. He announced that the island’s harbour development project will include the construction of a docking area and a designated swimming area. He also assured that the island’s water and sewerage projects will continue as planned.
Speaking about the forthcoming national budget, President Dr Muizzu revealed that the 2026 Budget will allocate funds for several development projects in Noomaraa, including the construction of a modern football ground, a volleyball court, and a multi-purpose hall for the island’s school.
The President also announced that the relocation of the island’s powerhouse will be completed before next Ramadan, with full Government support extended to Fenaka Corporation to ensure timely completion. He further assured that measures would be taken to resolve the prolonged RTL ferry routes in the atoll.
This is President Dr Muizzu’s first official trip to Noomaraa since assuming office. However, he had previously met with members of the Noomaraa Council and the Women’s Development Committee during an earlier visit to North Miladhunmadulu Atoll in February 2024. During that meeting, the community had raised concerns regarding the lack of sports facilities for youth and the absence of a police post, both of which are now being addressed.
As part of his visit, the President observed the commencement of several key infrastructure project on the island, including the construction of the Noomaraa Fitness and Recreation Centre, a new police station, a mosque, and the new building of the Noomaraa Council Secretariat.
