Safari boat sexual assault case dismissed due to lack of evidence

The Hulhumalé Magistrate's Court has dismissed the case of a foreign woman who was allegedly sexually assaulted onboard a vessel near Hulhumalé.
In June 2020, the prosecution filed a case against Abdulla Shan, the husband of Hinnavaru MP Jeehan Mahmood, for sexually assaulting a Kenyan woman on a safari boat near Hulhumalé.
The Prosecutor General's Office (PGO) stated that the Hulhumalé court dismissed the case late last month due to insufficient evidence.
The case was heard by Chief Magistrate Siyama Mohamed.
Two others, including Shan, were prosecuted in the case, but they were not charged due to a lack of evidence.
The police faced criticism after the accused were released from police custody.
